Half as many international airports will be in Russia
The RF Ministry of Transport (Mintrans) intends to reduce almost by half number of international airports in Russia. As Press Service of Mintrans reports with reference to the statement made by Minister of Transport of Russia Igor Levitin in the course of his working trip to Bashkiria - «of 69 Russian airports receiving international flights almost a half does not pay its way ". Simultaneously it is planned to optimize aerodrome and route network so as to make air travels affordable for the citizens of all regions of Russia. Project of route network creation in the Volga Region and Nonblack Soil Zone is being examined at present, the network will involve several airlines. Let us recall that just in spring it was told about the reduction of the number of international airports in Russia. Head of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Yurchik compared the present situation with the times of former USSR when there were only 18 international airports. Today, the official complained, the overwhelming majority of the existing 69 air terminals has not got any regular flight abroad: only charter flights are made from time to time. After closing of the majority of international airports Mintrans intends to build 8 large modern international traffic centres where a passenger would lose minimum of time for flights transfer. Let us note that only one such traffic centre works now in Russia – it is in Moscow. The Ministry is planning to build similar airports in Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk and Krasnodar. RBK: Turist.Ru
