«Lonely Planet» world guide advises foreigners to beware of diarrhea, AIDS and ticks in Moscow
Famous guides of «Lonely Planet» dedicated to cheap individual tours to Russian capital appeared in Moscow book stores, «Izvestiya» wrote. Judging by the guide book foreign tourists will have a rough time in Moscow. Authors of the world famous guide obviously did not read the city-hall program on positive image of Moscow formation. Though a whole chapter called «Mayor in a cap» is devoted to the mayor of Moscow. According to the authors of the guide the Muscovites live very tough. Until now barter system prevails in the city: workers get wages by products they turn out. However, Moscow is named one of the most expensive cities in the world judging by the average bills of some restaurants and the cost of hotel rooms in the center. In a chapter on visas and permissions the exemplary sums of militia bribes for the absence of documents are given: 1500-2000 rubles. The guide explains that this is a «big business» for the MIA officers which greatly love to check documents of foreigners directly at the Red Square. Specially for those who will decide to rent a car it is said that traffic police can start shooting at the car if it does not stop on demand. In a chapter on safety it is said that the streets of Russian capital are as dangerous for tourists as the streets of New York, London or any other large city. But health care is quite good in Moscow: among the most widespread diseases only diarrhea, AIDS and bites of ticks are indicated. RBK: Turist.Ru
